Cholera Outbreak in Haiti

The recent cholera outbreak has spread to Haiti’s capital. At least 544 people have died from the disease and a reported 8,138 people are infected with it. Giving Children Hope is responding to the crisis by sending medicines. Join us and help stop the spread of cholera from taking more lives.

Officials are concerned that floods triggered by Hurricane Tomas could exacerbate the spread of the disease, which is transmitted through the consumption of fecal matter contained in contaminated water or food.

Medical Missions for Children (MMFC)

Medical Missions for Children (www.MMFC.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to correcting facial deformities of under privileged children and young adults around the world. We specialize in correcting cleft lips and palates, ear deformities, severe facial injuries and burns. Our medical team consists of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, dentists and speech therapists from well- respected hospitals in the U.S. and abroad. Each team member volunteers his or her vacation time to participate. On average MMFC completes 15 to 20 missions world- wide each year, including Angeles City and Leyte, Philippines.

"Money is both a roadblock and an excuse precluding mission involvement. Overcoming the financial obstacle is perhaps easier than the psychological aspect of using it as an excuse not to leave our comfort zone and serve. To serve involves sacrifice but funding ones mission doesn’t mean you have to bear the entire burden of cost.

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given was to not use my own money to fund a mission trip. When I first started going on mission trips, I had the financial means to simply write a personal check. However, when you pay your own way, you are cutting out a huge aspect of the mission experience. I strongly encourage people to raise money for their trip by asking people to support them."
